General Treatment Information

These general instructions apply to many treatments at Beam Beauty & Wellness Centre. Please also review the treatment-specific handout provided for your procedure, as those instructions contain important information specific to your treatment and always take precedence if they differ from the general guidelines below.

Thank you for choosing Beam Beauty & Wellness Centre. Your safety, comfort, and results are our priority. The following guidelines are intended to help you prepare for your treatment and support optimal healing and outcomes.

PREPARING FOR YOUR VISIT

Before Your Appointment

Please arrive on time for your appointment.
Arrive with clean skin whenever possible (no makeup, lotions, sunscreen, or self-tanner on the treatment area unless otherwise instructed).
Inform your provider of any changes to your health, medications, supplements, allergies, or medical history since your last visit.
Please let us know if you:
Are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.
Have an active infection, cold sore, fever, new rash, or open wound in the treatment area.
Have recently started any new medications, particularly antibiotics, isotretinoin (Accutane), blood thinners, or medications that increase sun sensitivity.
If you are feeling unwell, please contact us before your appointment to determine whether your treatment should be rescheduled.
If you are prone to cold sores and your treatment involves the lips or surrounding area, please let your provider know before your appointment.
If you have an important event (such as a wedding, vacation, or professional photos), please discuss timing with your provider, as some treatments may result in temporary redness, swelling, bruising, or peeling.

After Your Appointment

Every treatment is different; however, many aesthetic procedures temporarily compromise the skin barrier or create mild inflammation while your body heals.

Unless your provider has given different instructions:

  • Keep the treated area clean and avoid touching it unnecessarily.
  • Avoid excessive heat, strenuous exercise, excessive sweating, swimming, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, and hot showers for 24–48 hours, or as directed by your provider.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher daily to any treated areas exposed to the sun.
  • Avoid using retinoids, exfoliants, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C, scrubs, or other active skincare products until your provider advises it is safe.
  • Follow all treatment-specific instructions regarding makeup, skincare, massage, shaving, intercourse, or activity restrictions.
  • Stay well hydrated and follow any home-care recommendations provided by your practitioner.

Before Your Appointment

• Arrive with clean skin (no makeup, self-tanner, or heavy lotions).

• Avoid retinoids, exfoliants, acids, and scrubs for 3–7 days before treatment (or as directed by your provider).

• Avoid excessive sun exposure, sunburns, or tanning for 2 weeks before your appointment.

• Let us know if you are prone to cold sores, especially if the treatment area includes your lips or around your mouth.

• Please inform us before your appointment if you:

○ Are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

○ Have an active infection, cold sore, rash, or open wound in the treatment area.

○ Have started any new medications or experienced any significant changes to your health.

After Your Appointment

• Keep your skin clean, calm, and well hydrated. Avoid makeup for 24–48 hours.

• Avoid makeup, strenuous exercise, excessive sweating, swimming, hot tubs, and saunas for 24–48 hours.

• Avoid excessive heat, strenuous exercise, excessive sweating, swimming, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms and hot showers for 24–48 hours.

• Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer as recommended by your provider.

• Avoid retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C, and other active skincare products until advised by your provider, typically 5–7 days after treatment.

• Apply a broad-spectrum mineral (physical) SPF 30 or higher daily once your skin has begun to heal. Sun protection is essential to reduce the risk of pigmentation and protect your results.

Normal, Expected Reactions

• Redness and warmth (similar to a mild sunburn)

• Mild swelling

• Tightness or dryness

• Light flaking or peeling as the skin heals

These effects typically improve within 24–72 hours, although mild dryness or flaking may last a few days longer.

MORPHEUS8 (RF MICRONEEDLING) TREATMENT

Before Your Appointment

• Avoid sun exposure/tanning/self-tanner for 2–4 weeks.

• Pause retinoids/exfoliants for ~5–7 days (or as directed).

• Tell us about recent injectables, Accutane history, active acne flares, or new meds.

• Tell us in advance if you are pregnant/trying to conceive, breastfeeding, have an active infection, cold sore, new rash, or any new medication.

After Your Appointment

• Keep skincare gentle for 3–7 days (no acids/retinoids).

• Avoid makeup, excessive heat, strenuous exercise, excessive sweating, swimming, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms and hot showers for 24–48 hours.

• SPF daily; avoid direct sun.

Normal, Expected Reactions

• Redness and swelling; tiny “grid marks” or mild scabbing can occur for 1–3 days.

Scalp Microneedling Treatment

Before Your Appointment

• Wash your hair the day of treatment and arrive with a clean scalp free of styling products.

• Avoid hair colouring or chemical treatments for 5–7 days before your appointment.

• Avoid retinoids, exfoliating products, or medicated scalp treatments unless directed otherwise.

• Tell us if you have an active scalp infection, open sores, psoriasis flare, eczema flare, or recent sunburn.

• Let us know if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, breastfeeding, or have started any new medications.

After Your Appointment

• Keep the scalp clean and dry for 24 hours.

• Do not wash your hair until the following day (or as directed by your provider).

• Avoid hair colouring, bleaching, perms, or chemical treatments for 5–7 days.

• Avoid excessive heat, strenuous exercise, excessive sweating, swimming, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, and hot showers for 24–48 hours.

• Avoid scratching or picking the scalp while it heals.

• If using topical hair growth products (such as minoxidil), follow your provider’s instructions regarding when to resume.

Normal, Expected Reactions

• Mild redness.

• Tenderness.

• Tightness.

• Mild pinpoint bleeding immediately after treatment.

• Mild flaking as the scalp heals.

GENERAL FACIAL TREATMENT

• Let us know about any recent injectables so we can time appropriately.

• Tell us in advance if you have an active infection, cold sore, new rash or any new medication.

After Your Appointment

• Keep skincare simple for 48 hours.

• Avoid active ingredients (retinoids/acids), exfoliation, and heat for 24–48 hours.

Normal, Expected Reactions

• Mild redness/sensitivity (especially after extractions) for 1–2 days.

Before Your Appointment

• Avoid retinoids, acids/exfoliants, scrubs, and waxing/depilatories on the treatment area for 5–7 days (or as directed).

• Avoid sunburn, tanning, and self-tanner for 2 weeks prior. Use SPF daily.

• Let us know if you:

○ have a history of cold sores (especially if treating around the mouth)

○ are using prescription acne products, recently used isotretinoin/Accutane, or have very sensitive skin

○ have active irritation, rash, or broken skin in the area

• Arrive with clean skin (no makeup, lotions, or oils on the area).

• Tell us in advance if you are pregnant/trying to conceive, breastfeeding, have an active infection, cold sore, new rash, or any new medication.

After Your Appointment

• Keep skin calm and hydrated. Use only gentle cleanser + moisturizer as directed.

• Avoid retinoids, acids, exfoliation, and active treatments until peeling has fully resolved (typically 5–10 days, depending on peel depth).

• Avoid excessive heat, strenuous exercise, excessive sweating, swimming, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms and hot showers for 24–48 hours.

• Do not pick, peel, or scrub flaking skin.

• Use SPF daily and avoid direct sun.

Normal, Expected Reactions

• Redness, tightness, dryness.

• Mild stinging/burning for a few hours after treatment.

• Peeling/flaking typically begins 2–3 days after and can last 5–10 days (varies by peel strength).

• Mild temporary darkening of pigment before it lifts can occur.

• You notice crusting, pus/drainage, or a rash that spreads.

Before Your Appointment

• Avoid sun/tanning/self-tanner for 2–4 weeks.

• Tell us about new medications, especially those that increase sun sensitivity.

  • Shave the area 12–24 hours before (close shave, no irritation).
  • Ensure tattoos in the treatment area are covered (taped) when arriving for your appointment.
  • Avoid sun/tanning/self-tanner for 2 weeks prior.Tell us about any photosensitizing medications or recent antibiotics.

  • Apply numbing cream as instructed by your Beam practitioner.
  • Tell us if you have a history of keloids or delayed healing.
  • Tell us in advance if you are pregnant/trying to conceive, breastfeeding, have an active infection, cold sore, new rash or any new medication.
After Your Appointment
  • Keep the area clean and protected; avoid picking/scratching.
  • Avoid excessive heat, intense exercise, excessive sweating, swimming, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms and hot showers for 24–48 hours (or as directed).

  • Redness, swelling, tenderness; blistering can occur.

• If medically appropriate, avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements that can increase bruising for 5–7 days (for example: aspirin, ibuprofen/NSAIDs, fish oil, vitamin E). Do not stop prescribed medication without medical advice.

• Let us know in advance if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, feeling unwell, or have an active infection or skin irritation near the treatment area.

• Arrive with clean skin (minimal makeup on the treatment area).

• If you take blood thinners/NSAID’s/supplements that increase bruising, do not stop anything prescribed, ask your prescriber first.

After Your Appointment

• Avoid alcohol and intense exercise for 24 hours.

• Avoid heat exposure (sauna, hot yoga, steam rooms) and hot showers for 24–48 hours.

• Keep skincare simple for 24–48 hours: gentle cleanser + moisturizer. Avoid acids, retinoids, and exfoliation on the area.

• Use SPF daily and avoid direct sun.

• Massage is important (5–5–5 rule): massage treated areas for 5 minutes, 5 times per day, for 5 days, starting as directed by your provider.

• Mild swelling, tenderness, redness, or itching.

• Bruising.

• Temporary fullness right after treatment (often settles within a few days).

• Results develop gradually over weeks as collagen builds; a series of sessions may be recommended.

BELKYRA (FAT DISSOLVING INJECTIONS) TREATMENT

Before Your Appointment

• Plan for visible swelling. If you have an important event, schedule treatment at least 2 weeks in advance.

• Avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior.

• If medically appropriate, avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements that can increase bruising for 5–7 days (do not stop prescribed medication without medical advice).

• Reschedule if you are unwell, feverish, or have an active infection.

• Arrive with clean skin (minimal makeup and skincare on the lower face and neck).

• Please tell us if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding — we defer injectable treatments during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

After Your Appointment

• Expect swelling, tenderness, and firmness under the chin. Swelling is normal and can be significant.

• Use a cool compress as needed for comfort (short intervals, gentle pressure).

• Avoid alcohol and intense exercise for 24 hours.

• Avoid heat exposure (sauna, hot yoga, steam rooms) and hot showers for 24–48 hours.

• Avoid rubbing, massaging, or applying firm pressure to the treated area for 48 hours, unless your provider gives different instructions.

• Sleep with your head slightly elevated for the first 1–2 nights if swelling is uncomfortable.

• Keep skincare simple for 24–48 hours: gentle cleanser + moisturizer. Avoid exfoliation and active ingredients on the area.

Normal, Expected Reactions

• Swelling, bruising, pain, redness, warmth, tenderness.

• Numbness or tingling (can last longer for some clients).

• Firmness, small lumps, or a “full” feeling while healing.

• Up-to-date cervical screening is required (recent “clear” Pap/HPV result, per Beam’s intake requirement) before proceeding with internal Empower treatments.

• Reschedule if you have UTI symptoms, active infection, unusual discharge/odor, sores/irritation, or are feeling unwell.

• Tell us if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or recently postpartum.

• Empty your bladder immediately before your appointment.

• If you have any implanted electrical/medical devices, let us know in advance.

Before Your Appointment

• Please arrive well-hydrated (aim for water throughout the day).

• Have a light meal or snack within 2–3 hours of your appointment.

• Avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior.

• Tell us in advance if you are:

○ pregnant or breastfeeding

○ feeling unwell, feverish, or have an active infection

○ prone to fainting with needles

○ living with kidney disease, heart failure, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or any significant medical condition

○ taking prescription medications or supplements (bring a list)

After Your Appointment

• Continue to hydrate well for the rest of the day.

• Avoid alcohol and intense exercise for 24 hours.

• Keep the IV site clean and avoid heavy lifting with that arm for the remainder of the day.

Normal, Expected Reactions

• Feeling refreshed or tired afterward (both can be normal).

• Mild lightheadedness or chills briefly after the infusion.

• Mild soreness, bruising, or a small lump at the IV site.

• Increased urination.

• IV site redness, warmth, swelling, or tenderness is worsening after the first day.

• Persistent dizziness, nausea/vomiting, headache, rash/itching, or you feel unwell after leaving.

• You develop fever or new symptoms that concern you.

• Trouble breathing, chest pain, fainting, facial/lip swelling, or a rapidly spreading rash.

• Severe swelling or pain in the arm, or signs of a significant allergic reaction.
